We also have volunteer opportunities for anyone in the community who wants to learn about horses and their welfare.

Our History
Seeing a need for horses that have been neglected or held in horse slaughter pipelines we provide a second chance retreat to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome those horses. We started with rescuing 2 miniature horse mothers and their foals in 2021. Both mares arrived in bad conditions and suffered from malnutrition. We also adopted 3 loving
Seeing a need for horses that have been neglected or held in horse slaughter pipelines we provide a second chance retreat to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome those horses. We started with rescuing 2 miniature horse mothers and their foals in 2021. Both mares arrived in bad conditions and suffered from malnutrition. We also adopted 3 loving donkeys from another local rescue organization that year. In 2022 we rescued 3 more miniature horses and saved 6 other horses from the horse slaughter pipeline which are currently in rehabilitation.

It is the mission, duty and purpose of Zen Equine Retreat to address, educate, coordinate, rescue and rehabilitate to protect and rehome horses in need locally and beyond. We believe that every horse deserves a second chance and that with patience and extensive training each one of them can reach its potential. It is also our goal to bring awareness to this important issue and give the local community the opportunity to get involved by volunteering and supporting our mission.
